Dr Theresa Mercer, Senior Lecturer in Environmental Sustainability at Cranfield University, has been appointed to the Science Committee of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

The Science Committee provides strategic advice to NERC’s Executive and Council, shaping the development and delivery of research, innovation, training, and national capability priorities. It plays a key role in recommending strategic investments to advance NERC’s mission of understanding and protecting the environment.

Dr Mercer’s research focuses on environmental systems in response to changes such as land use variations and management interventions. Her expertise will contribute to the Committee’s work in supporting the UK’s environmental research agenda.

Dr Mercer is among three new appointments to the Science Committee.

Theresa said: “I am deeply honoured to be joining the NERC Science Committee where I will be contributing in an advisory, strategic and supportive capacity. I look forward to serving the wider environmental science community, NERC and UKRI to help shape and advance strategic priorities for the future of environmental science research, innovation and education.”
