Northumbrian Water employees champion local causes during Volunteers Week

Hundreds of Northumbrian Water employees have rolled up their sleeves to support local charitable and community causes in celebration of National Volunteers Week.

Around 200 dedicated workers stepped away from their daily duties, courtesy of the company’s employee volunteering programme, to make a meaningful impact on causes close to their hearts.

This annual event unites organisations and groups, shining a spotlight on the incredible difference volunteering makes in local communities. Northumbrian Water teams have been diving into various projects, from environmental initiatives to supporting vulnerable groups, transforming lives and nurturing the environment.

Northumbrian Water volunteers organised beach cleans in honour of World Oceans Day, combating invasive species through “Balsam Bashing,” and assisting charities that aid the homeless, lonely, and vulnerable.

Their contributions extend to local cancer support charities and animal rescue centres, showcasing the breadth of their commitment. Throughout the year, Northumbrian Water’s teams consistently support hundreds of causes, dedicating their time and energy to community betterment.

This initiative, known as the “Just an Hour” scheme, has made a significant impact over the past decade, benefiting numerous local projects and charities right across the North East.

Ben Powick, Public Affairs, Policy, and Engagement Manager for Northumbrian Water said:

“I am thrilled with the number of our people turning up to help out through our employee volunteering programme – Just an Hour.

“Our volunteers have engaged in various tasks. It’s heartwarming to see our employees take time out of their busy schedules to do something great for their local communities while bonding with their co-workers.”

Local charitable and community causes in need of volunteer support from Northumbrian Water are encouraged to reach out through the Just an Hour program on the company’s website.
