Stantec, a global leader in sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental consulting, has appointed Brian Yates to be its new Managing Director for the United Kingdom and Ireland. Amid a period of strategic expansion for Stantec in the UK&I, Yates will unlock further growth opportunities while developing its award-winning culture and external profile.

Yates brings 30 years of global industry experience to the role. His career has seen him specialise in project management and environmental services, having led large environmental assessments and consultation efforts. Originally from Nova Scotia in Canada, Yates has worked for Stantec for over six years holding the position of vice president. His prior role saw him responsible for developing Stantec’s overall business in British Columbia.

“Stantec is the most authentically values-driven place I’ve ever worked, and I want to ensure every team member is empowered to realise their potential,” Yates said. “Having built my career in North America and Asia, I will draw on my experience to drive collaboration between the UK&I and the rest of Stantec. There is an immense opportunity for growth here and our people are the most integral factor in our success.”

Yates was appointed to the role by Cath Schefer, Stantec’s executive vice president and chief operating officer – Global. She added:

“Bringing the best ideas and expertise to the UK&I from regions around the world is a crucial part of Stantec’s client offering. Brian has an incredible track record in harnessing market opportunities and delivering strategic growth—doing so with a focus on people. The UK&I has incredible growth potential in the current market environment, and I’m looking forward to seeing Brian use his wider global experience in this exciting new chapter for Stantec.”

Stantec plays a critical role in addressing the world’s greatest environmental and societal challenges. The Company recently acquired Hydrock, a British integrated engineering consultancy. The move increased its UK&I workforce by more than a third while growing and diversifying its offering. The appointment of Yates to UK&I MD follows several multimillion-pound water services framework wins for Stantec, an array of industry awards, as well as successful bids for nationally significant interdisciplinary projects.
