Southern Water awards new Professional Services contracts to seven companies

Seven companies have been tasked with helping transform Southern Water’s professional services provision ahead of a game-changing 2025-30 regulatory spending period for the utility company.

AECOM, Arup, KPMG, Mott MacDonald, Stantec, Turner & Townsend, and WSP/Binnies have all been awarded contracts as part of Southern Water’s Professional Services framework – one of three critical frameworks, with Capital Delivery and Network Services still to be decided.

This framework will allow Southern Water to access a wide range of technical advisory services in support of building and engineering projects of all scales and sizes – more important now than ever, as the organisation awaits Ofwat’s response to its record £7.8bn business plan for 2025-30.

Representatives of all companies recently gathered at Southern Water’s Falmer office, outside Brighton, for a special supplier welcome day.

The framework, which runs for an initial five years with the option to extend by another three years, is broken down into three lots:

  1. Asset Management support services
  2. Programme and Project Management support services
  3. Technical and Engineering support services

Southern Water’s Head of Procurement, Stephen Coleman, said:

“I am delighted to announce these seven Professional Services partners who I am confident will be of huge support to Southern Water as we embark on an absolutely crucial time of positive change for the UK water sector.”

Stephen added: “From identifying and designing new nature-based solutions to improve water quality, reduce storm overflows and boost biodiversity, to spearheading best practices in hydraulic modelling, water recycling and digital innovation, projects within this framework will help future-proof our network and enhance our communities across the region.”

Jacquie Christodoulides, Regional director for Water at Stantec, said:

“We’re very proud of the successful partnership Stantec has built with Southern Water over the last 20 years, based on a foundation of trust, technical expertise, and innovation.

“We’re delighted to have been appointed to Southern Water’s Professional Services Framework, on which we will be able to leverage our extensive capabilities in nature-based solutions, overflow management, strategic resource options, water recycling, digital services, modelling and engineering design across other key areas. Together we will work to address Southern Water’s most important societal, environmental, and efficiency challenges, designing and delivering solutions that support their plans to future-proof their networks.”
