SES Water is partnering with both Run Gatwick and the YMCA Surrey Fun Run to help these community partners reduce single-use plastic bottles at their events.
By providing tap water from its custom-built tanker, The Quenchinator, all runners and spectators will be able to refill their reusable bottles throughout both events.
Scheduled to take place on Sunday 5 May, the YMCA Surrey Run will be offering a five-mile adult race and a one-mile adult and junior fun run in Reigate’s Priory Park Run. And a week later, on Sunday 12 May, Run Gatwick will be offering a 10-kilometre route, set against the background of the Gatwick Airport flight path.
SES Water, a water only company, is passionate about supporting the communities it serves, and plays a crucial role in addressing environmental challenges. The Company, which is one of the highest ranked in the UK for water quality, is committed to enhancing nature, and, together with the wider water industry, is dedicated to preventing the equivalent of four billion plastic bottles from becoming waste by 2030.
SES Water Wholesale Director, Tom Kelly, said:
“We’re delighted to be continuing to support these local community events and our partnership with both reflects the importance we place on playing our part in the community and minimising our environmental impact.
“By using our Quenchinator, participants and spectators will have the opportunity to hydrate themselves with tap water, eliminating the need for bottled water. We extend our best wishes to the runners and look forward to supporting both events.”
Run Gatwick Event Director, David Kelly, said:
“We could never have imagined the extent to which our partnership with SES Water would reach too – to date eliminating over 200,000 plastic water bottles (and counting) and giving our local runners their own unlimited local tap water to keep hydrated. It’s a shining example of great collaboration in our community and thank you as always to the fantastic SES Water team for your support again in this year’s Run Gatwick and Run Reigate events.”
YMCA East Surrey Chief Executive, Ian Burks, said:
“Thanks to SES Water for providing free drinking water from The Quenchinator at the YMCA Fun Run in Priory Park on Sunday 5 May. This inclusive, charity running event is now in its 25th year and we are pleased to find ways to be more sustainable whilst still offering a fun, family day out.”
