To mark World Water Day 2024, colleagues from across Pennon have announced they will be tackling the Great Bristol Run to raise money for WaterAid.
A number of WaterAid Warriors from the business have signed up to May’s 13.1-mile half marathon event to help raise vital funds for the not-for-profit organisation determined to make clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene accessible to everyone.
Pennon has been a long-time supporter of WaterAid and by taking part in this running challenge its team of fundraisers hope to add to the £10 million raised for the charity by the company’s water businesses, South West Water, Bristol Water and Bournemouth Water, over more than 40 years.
The announcement comes on World Water Day, an annual United Nations event which celebrates water and inspires further action to tackle the global water crisis – in particular towards achieving the goal of water and sanitation for all by 2030.
WaterAid is helping to achieve this goal by working with communities all over the world to ensure they have sustainable and safe water, sanitation and hygiene.
Laura Flowerdew, Pennon Group’s Chief Customer and Digital Officer, and one of the ‘WaterAid Warriors’ taking part in May’s event, said:
“We’re delighted to be raising money for such a good cause. WaterAid does so much important work to deliver clean water and sanitation – basic human necessities that we all take for granted – so every donation will help spur us on.
“The AJ Bell Great Bristol Run attracts thousands of runners each year to take on Bristol’s super-scenic 10k and half marathon routes. Starting in the heart of the city, runners will pass some of the city’s most iconic landmarks and hear the incredible local support all along the route, before a grandstand finish in Millennium Square.”
