Southern Water engages ‘dark web’ specialists after cyber attack

Souther Water has engaged the services of independent cybersecurity specialists to monitor the ‘dark web’, following a cyber attack in January this year, when personal data from a large number of their customers, as well as current and former employees, was stolen.

The specialists have reported that since Southern Water was named on the cyber criminals’ site on 22nd January, they have so far found no evidence of the data in this cyber incident being published online.

Based on investigations so far, which are ongoing, Southern Water plans to notify 5 to 10 percent of their customer base to let them know that their personal data has been impacted. They will also notify all of current employees and some former employees.
