CompEx releases updated Water Utilities qualification following expert industry feedback

Awarding organisation, CompEx, has worked with experts from the UK water industry to review its Water Utilities (Ex09 – Ex10) qualification.

The revised qualification, which will be released later in the year, is designed for electrical and instrumentation technicians working in hazardous areas in the water treatment and sewage sectors. With input from an industry working group, the syllabus, assessment, and course materials have been redesigned to reflect up-to-date work practices, standards, and relevant regulations.

The working group included representatives from leading water utility companies and training providers. A series of pilot courses finalised the programme with learner feedback forming a critical part of the ongoing development of the training course and the qualification.

Employer feedback has established that they would like to see more support for learners ahead of attending a CompEx course. As a result, the revised programme has been restructured and now includes pre-course e-learning, which will enable practitioners to have a better understanding of the subject matter beforehand and increase their chances of successfully achieving the qualification.

John Harris, Technical Development Manager at CompEx

John Harris, Technical Development Manager at CompEx, said:

“The working group has shaped the development of the updated Ex 09 & 10 qualification. It’s vital to support the competency validation of technicians working in hazardous areas in the water treatment sector.

“Preparation before attending the course is key to success and by utilising our package of e-learning, practitioners can develop a deeper understanding of the key principles that underpin competency. It’s our belief that by familiarising themselves with this this ahead of attending the training centre for face-to-face instruction, learners will be more likely to digest the course’s content and have a higher chance of success.”
