Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering services, has completed Phase 2 of South West Water’s Asset Improvement Programme to update the company’s asset register.
The updated register will support South West Water in making more effective operational investment and strategic maintenance decisions. This will enable the provider to better understand its asset valuations in preparation for its PR24 Ofwat submission.
Altogether, under Phases 1 and 2, Stantec has assessed more than 10,000 assets across South West Water’s sites as part of a £500,000 programme. These covered water treatment works and sewage treatment works, as well as water ancillaries such as booster pumping stations and raw water intakes.
The surveys were facilitated by South West Water operatives over a 17-month period, including additional time to cope with the challenges of operating sites under Covid-19 restrictions.
The original purpose of the programme was to conduct onsite condition surveys of these assets using the ArcGIS Survey 123 platform. However, Stantec’s work expanded to include gathering asset information such as power ratings, customs numbers, and manufacturer details. All the data was finally stored on Ellipse, the asset management database used by South West Water.
South West Water has recognised a third phase will be needed to complete the whole asset data assessment. The company has asked Stantec to submit a proposal to examine the assets of 15 remaining sites and an additional 25 pumping stations.
Commenting on the completion of Phase 2, Sally Walters, Stantec’s Operations Director – Water UK Midlands & West, said:
“I am pleased to congratulate the Stantec team and our colleagues at South West Water on the successful completion of Phases 1 and 2 of this substantial programme.
“The improved completeness and correctness of South West Water’s asset register will not only support the company’s PR24 Ofwat submission but also enable more effective investment and maintenance decisions.”
South West Water’s, Investment Programme Manager, Steve Rosser added:
“This work was a key stage in embedding insights-led maintenance decision-making for our critical water and wastewater treatment assets”.
