Modular pontoon installation company, Pontoonworks, has announced they have now been hired by a seventh water company to assist in wastewater maintenance and repair projects, bringing their full site list to: Bristol Water, Severn Trent Water, South West Water, Thames Water, United Utilities, Welsh Water and Wessex Water.
The company say the growing number of water companies and contractors choosing to use pontoon for their repair and maintenance projects is because decommissioning, draining, and scaffolding is expensive, time consuming and often unnecessary. Most of the work required in PSTs, FSTs, HSTs and aeration lanes is accessible from the safety of a pontoon and will get to the work site quickly and safely.
According to Pontoonworks, one of the advantages of a pontoon installation is that disruption to the site is kept to a minimum. A full access working platform can be installed and moored to the gantry, ensuring the tank can remain fully operational whilst the pontoon is not in use. This gives clients the ability to work to their own schedule with the pontoon in situ without the pressure of a tight timeline.
The company also say that as more practitioners, dealing with a variety of ageing infrastructure, within the sector come into contact with the use of pontoon, they begin to see and understand the benefits of time and cost saving.
Chris Murphy said: “It is a bit of a never-look-back moment, but every project is different and we thrive on developing bespoke solutions for our clients. We have recently floated a total access working pontoon across live aeration lanes the size of a football pitch – when largely people thought it would not be possible. It is this flexible approach and our innovative can-do thinking that is why we have become a go-to solution”.
