Leading environmental consultancy adds senior engineer to team

GeoSmart Information, a leading environmental consultancy, has expanded its team, as demand for its work continues to grow.

Wajid Wastakaran joins the Shrewsbury-based consultancy, a UK leader in producing proprietary flood and sustainable drainage data, as a senior drainage engineer.

An experienced civil engineer, Wajid has worked with national engineering companies for seven years and has led a number of major commercial and residential projects.

At GeoSmart, he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the drainage design team.

Wajid is especially experienced in detailed drainage design of systems for adoption and will help to train and mentor other team members of both surface and foul drainage systems, giving the team strength and resilience to take on more varied projects.

Dr Paul Ellis, managing director of GeoSmart Information, said:

Wajid’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for the business, which is seeing a rise in demand across all its services, including contaminated land reports, sustainable drainage system (SuDS) reports, and flood risk assessments.

“Wajid is a specialist in his field, and he joins a fantastic team of experts in this niche sector,” he said. This past year has seen the most rapid expansion of GeoSmart since the business was first launched in 2013, with 10 new members of staff, including senior and director posts.

“It’s been a hugely successful year and we are looking forward to developing the business further in the short and medium term.”

Wajid said: “I’m pleased to have joined such a forward-thinking and innovative consultancy that is doing first-class work in a number of sectors, from sustainable drainage projects to flood risk and insurance.”

GeoSmart Information has a strong technical base and a successful flood and environmental reports business that is used by commercial enterprises and in millions of domestic conveyances.

Last year, it launched FloodSmart Analytics, a product that enables insurers, risk managers and mortgage lenders to accurately assess flood risk at even single building level. It provides high-definition analysis for flood depths, probabilities and the costs of flooding from river, coastal, surface water and groundwater sources, including climate change impacts.

GeoSmart’s data is already relied on by multiple sectors, from millions of home-owners to corporate entities and public sector operators, and the data has supported research by the Climate Change Committee (CCC), the UK’s independent adviser on tackling climate change.
