Wessex Water sells Albion Water to SDS

Albion Water has announced that it will be sold by current owner Wessex Water to water infrastructure company SDS Limited.

Albion Water was the first of its kind when it was set up in 1999 to compete against the regulated Water Companies and has established a positive reputation for its approach towards protecting the environment through innovative water services solutions.

Albion serves around 3,000 customers and will continue to operate under its existing name. With sites in Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Kent and Essex, it also has a number of commercial water management partnerships, including GENeco and Pelican Business Services, also owned by Wessex Water.

Managing Director of Albion Water, Barry Hayward, said: “The sale will allow Albion Water to accelerate its development and further extend its product offering for the benefit of its customers, communities and the environment.

“This is absolutely the right thing for the progression of Albion Water. We have helped establish the business but selling it to SDS will enable faster growth, nurture innovation and enhance our competitiveness.”

Barry added that customers would see no change and would continue to receive the usual excellent standards of service; he also confirmed that there would be no job losses.

SDS Managing Director, Patrick Cullen, said: “The realities of a climate change emergency demand a committed and determined response to build flood resilience and reduce water consumption. With the acquisition of Albion Water, allied to our market-leading water infrastructure technologies, we are in a unique position to deliver a truly integrated approach to the management of this precious resource.

“We are looking forward to working with our new colleagues to ensure Albion Water continues to drive the water and wastewater market forward though innovation, great customer service and delivering on developers’ and the public’s needs.”
